We hope to help with some basic information about saltwater fishing the right tackle and tools, is important check the rule and regulation of your state to find out legal size and ways you can’t fish.
The types of lines to use:
*Heavy lines – Some fisherman use heavy lines and a heavier leader; if the leader should come apart or break from the line saving the sinker.
*Wire Leaders – The better use of a wire leader is to catch big game fish. They are complicated and time consuming. Have a bunch of them prepare before your planned day fish.
*The rule of thumb – A leader should about three times the strength of your line.
There are many types of hooks that could be used. Used the right hook for the fish you wish to catch.
*Hooks – hook size is very important to your success. Depending on the size of the fish, you should know what that hook that you are buying is going to catch. Know what type of fish you want to catch then buy the weight of the line, size of the hook and decide if natural bait or plastic lure.
The types of hooks:
*The O’Shaughnessy hook– Size from #3-10/0. This hook large and very strong, it is a standard hook.
*The Aberdeen hook– can be used for saltwater. It is a bendable hook mainly built by shaped wire.
*The Circle hook- Mainly used for catch and release, it avoids the hook from getting hooked on the gut of the fish.
*Live Bait hooks – lets the live bait swim freely; once is swallowed by your caught fish can be released much easier
*The Kahle hook – preferably for live bait. Once the fish swallows the hook becomes hard to take it out.
Types of Lures:
*Poppers and flies – small lures mostly used for bass and trout.
*Spoons – are designed to be cast.
*Plugs – designed to be used on top of the water.
*Spinners – have one or more blades that spin.
*Spinner-baits – looks like a safety pin and have or more blades that spin around safety-pin-like shaft.
*Surface Lures – these float on top of the water and imitate some frogs, lizards, and other fishes that might be injured.
Types of Bait:
Blade Baits – Design to fish in greater depth.
Buzz Baits – weighted body, with a skirt and a hook.
Crank Bait – this can be combined with a replaceable plastic tail.
Tube Bait – tube like baits weighted hooks placed inside the plastic tube.
Vibrating Bait – Sends out a vibration to attract fish.
How to choose the best Rod
Rods are made from bamboo to fiberglass. The best way to choose a rod for you is that one that feels right in your hand, but first decides the type of fish you want to catch. The species of the fish and the size of the size can determine what type of rod to buy.
Longer Rods are made to catch heavier species. Small rods are better suited for fishing in heavy cover, like bushes and tall grass. They also work well for smaller fish like perch and crappie. Try out new rods with a reel attached to get an accurate feel for the rod’s performance. Then take a rod from the rack and feel the weight on your hand. Try all the sizes possible. See how it fits in your hand.
Feeling the bite from the fish is one of the most important factors of a rod. So, a lighter rod can help you feel the strike of the fish and pull the fish quicker out of the water. Spinning permit for superior casting distance when using lightweight lures. They are different than other types of rods. They are also better for catching fish on light line. Most of the movement comes from the middle of the rods.
